March 4, 2010 - Detroit Bus Hits Woman During Safety Check
Detroit police say a bus mechanic had all of the necessary permits to have been behind the wheel of a bus that struck and killed a pedestrian Tuesday.
The Detroit Department of Transportation employee was conducting a safety check on the bus on a westside street when it struck and killed 49-year-old Ethel Davis just a couple of blocks from her home. Family members told the Detroit Free Press that Davis was deaf and had poor eyesight. Police said the 52-year-old mechanic had a commercial driver's license and the necessary endorsements to drive the vehicle. Investigators said the bus was traveling 20-25 miles per hour at the time of the accident. There was no immediate determination of any mechanical problems. The above is not legal advice.
